In S5 and S6, young people can opt to continue with a range of Skills for Work Courses in the following areas:

Travel & Tourism

National 4 & 5

As Tourism continues to be one of the major employment areas in Edinburgh and the Lothians, the study of Travel & Tourism provides learners with valuable skills and knowledge to help them move into the world of work.  There is a focus on four main units: Customer Service; Employability; Scotland; UK and Worldwide

 

Early Education & Childcare

National 5

This qualification will form an important part of the national provision, both for those who have identified the field of Early Education &Childcare as their chosen career path and also for any students following a programme of study at Higher level who may wish to extend their educational experience. The course is completed over one year and covers 4 key units: Working in Early Education & Childcare, Child Development and Health, Play and Parenting.  This course will prepare our students for entry to further qualifications such as the HNC in Early Education and Childcare or for employment within the sector. Students will also have opportunities to engage in outdoor learning and experience the true reality of caring for a baby over 24 hours! This course is enjoyable, eye-opening and a great stepping stone for the future.

 

Leadership

Level 6 Award (Higher Equivalent)

The course is completed over one year and is covered in two main parts: Leadership; An Introduction / Leadership; In Practice.  This course develops knowledge of leadership skills, styles and qualities. It is designed for learners who take, or plan to take, a leading role for an activity. This award allows individuals to build self confidence and self esteem and encourages learners to respect the cultures and beliefs of others working alongside them. Throughout the course, learners will learn how to develop team building and presentation skills and in the second part of the course, they will have the opportunity to show their skills whilst taking a leading role in planning an event.
