Broad General Education

S1

Courses are focused on ensuring learners succeed in Third Level Experiences and Outcomes.  Young people enjoy learning about History and our focus is on the development of the Scottish Nation through the following topics:  The Scottish Wars of Independence; Immigrants and Exiles.

S2

Courses are focused on ensuring learners succeed in Third Level Experiences and Outcomes.  Our focus shifts to European and World History through the study of the following topics: The Slave Trade; World War 2; The Holocaust; The Swinging Sixties.

S3

S3 pupils who opt to continue to study History through personalisation and choice study the following units to support coverage of Fourth Level Experiences and Outcomes: World War 1; The Industrial Revolution

S1 & S2

Broad General Education entitles our S1-2 pupils to a build on literacy and critical thinking skills in the context of a wide ranging periods in History.  Courses taught are designed to meet the Experiences and Outcomes outlined at Third Level in Curriculum for Excellence.  Pupils focus on the development of the Scottish nation and learn about Scotland’s distant prehistoric past, the emergence of the Scottish nation during the Middle Ages and the fight for Scotland’s independence during the Scottish Wars of Independence.  In S2, Pupils learn about the experience of conflict through a study of the Second World War and engage in a cross-curricular unit about the Holocaust with the English department.

S3 & S4

S3

The course taught is designed to meet the Experiences and Outcomes outlined at Fourth Level in Curriculum for Excellence.  Pupils focus on Scotland’s contribution to WWI and develop skills required for life, learning and work.

S4

 If Pupils have studied History in S3, they can choose to continue with their studies in S4. We offer National 4 and National 5 History. 

The Scottish Unit focuses on Changing Britain, 1760-1900. The British Unit focuses on The Era of the Great War 1910-1928 and finally the International Unit focuses on Hitler and Nazi Germany 1919-1939
